Forum Programme

The 2024 Vision Zero Fund Forum takes place against the backdrop of ongoing global developments, including the recognition of occupational safety and health (OSH) as a fundamental principle and right at work (FPRW), dynamic changes in the world of work and supply chains, and the urgent need to address the impact of climate change on the safety and health of workers. The Forum will provide a space to collectively shape the future of OSH in supply chains.

Since the establishment of the Vision Zero Fund (VZF) in 2015, much progress has been made in relation to improving workers’ occupational safety and health (OSH). However, despite these successes and achievements, much work still needs to be done. According to the most recent International Labour Organization (ILO) estimates, 2.93 million workers die every year due to work-related accidents and diseases. This serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges in protecting the well-being of workers worldwide. In the past few years, and especially since the last Vision Zero Fund Forum took place in 2021, several notable developments have taken place in the area of occupational safety and health such as the adoption of the Resolution on the inclusion of a safe and healthy working environment in the ILO’s framework of fundamental principles and rights at work by the Conference in June 2022. The opening session will place VZF within the context of various global developments in the area of occupational safety and health.

Occupational safety and health in supply chains: Challenges and opportunities

The overall objectives of the session will be to provide the audience with an overview of the Fund’s new strategy, including achievements, challenges, and strategic priorities.After the session, participants will have a better understanding of the evolution of the Fund, be more aware of the Fund’s framework for action, its guiding principles, and priority action areas. Vision Zero Fund Strategic priorities 2024-2028

Unsafe and unhealthy working conditions often result from a combination of underlying causes, such as governance gaps, a deficient legislative framework, insufficient knowledge and resources, and unsustainable business practices. One actor alone cannot address all these underlying conditions. All major stakeholders need to work together and assume responsibility (consistent with their respective mandates) to address systemic issues that lie at the root of poor OSH outcomes.
