Partnership for Decent Work in Fisheries: Promoting the ratification and implementation of the Work in Fishing Convention No 188
The fishing sector remains one of the most hazardous and least regulated working environments worldwide. The Work in Fishing Convention, 2007 (No. 188), provides an international framework to ensure decent working and living conditions for fishers and to strengthen governance in the sector.
This high-level event marks the launch of the Partnership for Decent Work in Fisheries, an initiative bringing together governments, international organizations, social partners and civil society to accelerate the ratification and effective implementation of Convention No. 188.
The event begins with high-level opening remarks from representatives of governments, international organizations and civil society, followed by a panel discussion bringing together perspectives from government, workers, employers and academia on how to translate political commitment into concrete progress towards ratification and implementation.
